Police Staff Investigator - Fraud Pursue - Economic Crime - 01

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Economic Crime Team within Specialist Crime of the Metropolitan Police. We are looking for police staff investigators who will investigate fraud cases and progress enquiries within Economic Crime Fraud Pursue Hubs, ensuring evidence is gathered, analysed and disclosed in line with legislation. The role focuses on supporting Officers in charge by managing case progression, interviewing, reviewing evidence and preparing case files to enable successful judicial outcomes. The successful individuals will be responsible for managing their own workload and will work under minimum supervision.

The Economic Crime Fraud Pursue Hubs are based at Hendon, Barking, Lewisham and Putney.

• Conduct victim, witness and expert interviews to secure accurate statements, ensuring reliable evidence is obtained for case progression.
• Gather, secure and analyse exhibits, documents and financial data to build evidential packages that support investigations.
• Prepare case files and manage disclosure processes to ensure compliance with legal requirements and enable effective prosecutions.
• Interview suspects and voluntary attendees in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE), supporting lawful and ethical case development.
• Liaise with internal teams and external agencies including banks, Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), courts and other police forces to share intelligence and progress investigations.
• Prepare and submit applications for warrants, production orders, and forensic or digital media examinations, enabling investigative lines of enquiry.
• Attend warrants and searches to recover evidence in support of fraud investigations.
• Manage an allocated caseload independently within supervisory direction, ensuring timely completion of investigative actions.

• Knowledge of the Fraud Act 2006, Bribery and Corruption Act, Money Laundering legislation, and the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE).
• Knowledge of case file preparation and disclosure obligations under the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act (CPIA).
• Skilled in analysing financial and digital data to identify evidence and intelligence.
• Competent in using Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) systems such as Connect and IIP to research and maintain investigative records.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office packages including Word, Outlook and Excel to support documentation and reporting.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills to engage with victims, witnesses, suspects and partner agencies.
• Ability to work independently to manage own workload and prioritise tasks within deadlines, while collaborating effectively in a team.
• Experience of investigating crime to PIP Level 1 standard within the past five years, including victim and witness statement taking, suspect interviews and custody procedures.
• Experience of building case files, managing disclosure and attending court to give evidence.
• Experience in obtaining evidence from financial institutions and other third parties to progress fraud investigations.

• A PIP Level 1 accreditation or equivalent investigative qualification is required for this role.
• Valid UK driving licence.
