The starting salary is £40,519, which includes allowances totalling £3,009. The salary is broken down as £37,510 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £40,141. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non‑pensionable allowance of £1,000.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Economic Crime / Emerging Threats Team within Specialist Crime of the Metropolitan Police. Working for the Met doesn’t have to mean patrolling the streets. Just as important as our uniformed officers is our 14,000‑strong team of professional and support staff working behind the scenes. It’s these skilled people who provide the organisational capability to police London.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Investigate fraud and emerging economic crime by gathering, analysing and presenting evidence to progress cases toward prosecution or disruption outcomes.
  • Take formal statements from victims, witnesses and subject‑matter experts to maintain accurate evidential records.
  • Interview suspects, victims and witnesses in accordance with Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) and other relevant legislation.
  • Secure, seize and review exhibits, digital media and CCTV to build comprehensive case files.
  • Prepare and manage case files and disclosure material in compliance with the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act (CPIA).
  • Submit and execute applications for warrants, production orders and forensic/digital examinations.
  • Work closely with internal specialist teams to progress investigations and gather intelligence.
  • Liaise with external partners including the Crown Prosecution Service, financial institutions and other law enforcement agencies.
  • Attend court when required to give evidence and support case presentation.
  • Manage your own caseload and contribute to wider team investigations, ensuring timely and effective case progression.

The role necessitates the allocation of designated powers.

Who we’re looking for:

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Fraud Act 2006, Bribery Act 2010, Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, Money Laundering Regulations and Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE).
  • Understanding of warrant applications, disclosure obligations and evidential standards.

Skills:

  • Skilled in suspect and witness interviewing aligned with legislative requirements.
  • Proficient in case file preparation, disclosure scheduling and document management.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and police digital systems (CONNECT, IIP) following training.
  • Able to analyse complex documents and financial information to identify key evidence.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively.

Experience:

  • Experience conducting criminal investigations within the last five years, to at least PIP Level 1 standard.
  • Experience in evidence gathering, statement taking and handling suspects or voluntary attendees.
  • Experience applying for and executing warrants, and submitting forensic or digital examination requests.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Accredited PIP Level 1 Investigator (or equivalent).
  • Full valid driving licence (for operational deployments).

This role requires the allocation of designated powers.

Desirable:

  • Accredited PIP Level 2 Investigator (or equivalent).

Vetting:

This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post.
