This role is for an Intelligence Researcher within Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP). You will exploit a range of research techniques to support analytical functions, develop intelligence products and profiles for senior leaders, and drive activity to meet tight deadlines. You will work as part of a team to mitigate threat, harm and risk across Islamist, Right Wing, Left Wing, Anarchist and Single-Issue themes, in support of the UK CONTEST strategy. You may be posted to CTPHQ (strategic threats) or the London Region (operational threats in the capital). The role may involve supporting live counter-terrorism investigations including attack planning in London or overseas where British nationals are involved.
Salary: The starting salary is £36,228, which includes allowances totalling £3,009. The salary breakdown is: £33,219 basic salary (increasing annually to £35,541), location allowance £2,009, and a non-pensionable allowance £1,000.
Please note: These roles require Developed Vetting (DV) before starting. The typical period between provisional offer and start date ranges from 9–12 months.
Responsibilities:
- Gather, collate and process data and information to support development of analytical and intelligence products.
- Conduct intelligence research across multiple systems including national and local police databases and CTP-specific systems.
- Conduct open-source research to build profiles of individuals, groups or threats.
- Prepare research products and intelligence packages to support strategic assessments and operational requirements.
- Present information clearly and concisely by interrogating and summarising large and varied data sources.
- Operate with integrity, handling sensitive information.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Engage in continuous professional development, including working towards IPP certification (Intelligence Professionalisation Programme).
Vetting: This post requires access to highly sensitive intelligence material. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Developed Vetting (DV) level before taking up the post. The role requires British nationality (some dual nationals may be ineligible) and Enhanced Security Check (eSC) or DV clearance. Security checks may impact travel and recruitment timelines.
