The Metropolitan Police Service are seeking an experienced Energy & Carbon Manager to join their Property Services Directorate and play a key role in delivering the organisation's sustainability, energy efficiency and carbon reduction ambitions.
Working within the Environment and Sustainability Team, this role offers a fantastic opportunity to influence environmental performance across one of the UK's largest and most complex property portfolios.
This role will be based in London across the Met estate with hybrid working available. (3 days on site per week. The rate for this role will be £440 per day umbrella.

With increasing focus on reducing carbon emissions, improving energy performance and meeting statutory reporting obligations, the Energy & Carbon Manager will play a critical role in helping the organisation achieve its environmental objectives while supporting operational policing across the capital.
This is an exciting time to join the Property Services Department. Working closely with the Head of Carbon, Energy & Sustainability and the Senior Energy & Carbon Manager, you will be responsible for managing and developing the organisation's Energy Management System (ISO 50001 aligned), supporting energy efficiency programmes, driving carbon reduction initiatives and ensuring compliance with a range of statutory, mandatory and voluntary reporting requirements.
The Team
The Environment and Sustainability Team sits within the Property Services Department and is responsible for driving environmental performance improvements across the Metropolitan Police estate. The team leads on sustainability strategy, energy management, carbon reduction, utilities management and environmental compliance across a wide range of operational and corporate facilities.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across Property Services, Facilities Management, Capital Projects, Fleet, Procurement and external stakeholders including the Greater London Authority (GLA), the London Energy Project (LEP) and the National Police Estates Group (NPEG), the team helps ensure the MPS continues to meet its environmental commitments while supporting frontline policing operations.
The Role
As Energy & Carbon Manager, you will take responsibility for the development and implementation of the Metropolitan Police Service's Energy Management System, supporting the delivery of energy efficiency and carbon reduction initiatives across the organisation. You will play a key role in monitoring performance, analysing energy and carbon data and driving continuous improvement across the estate.
You will manage energy and carbon reporting requirements, including contributions to climate budget submissions, environmental reporting and external benchmarking exercises. Working with stakeholders across the organisation, you will coordinate energy efficiency programmes, support low-carbon technology deployments, oversee monitoring and verification activities and help ensure projects deliver sustainable outcomes and long-term value.
The role will also involve managing relationships with utility and meter service providers, providing technical advice on energy and carbon matters, delivering training and awareness programmes, and supporting the development of sustainability objectives, targets and performance indicators. Essential Criteria
- Degree qualified in an engineering, environmental science, energy management or related discipline.
- Proven experience within an energy and carbon management role, with a strong understanding of energy efficiency and carbon reduction programmes
- Experience managing energy and carbon reporting, performance monitoring and compliance activities.
- Strong analytical capabilities, including advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
- Experience interpreting and presenting complex data and producing high-quality reports.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills.
- Experience delivering projects and programmes to tight deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of energy and carbon management practices and related statutory requirements.
Desirable Criteria
- Chartered Environmentalist, Chartered Energy Manager or working towards professional accreditation.
- Membership of a relevant professional body such as the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) or the Energy Institute.
- Experience working with ISO 50001 energy management systems.
- Knowledge of wider environmental management and utilities management disciplines.
- Experience delivering energy efficiency, renewable energy or low-carbon technology programmes within a large and complex organisation.
