Salary: The role will attract a salary of £100,000 to £110,000 per annum. A non‑pensionable allowance might be payable in addition to basic salary, for a candidate with exceptional and relevant knowledge, skills and experience.

Location: The role will be based at New Scotland Yard, but will require regular attendance at Kilburn Police Station, where the finance and commercial functions are based. You will be expected to work flexibly at multiple locations across the MPS estate, with at least 3 days per week (60% of working time) in the office.

Reporting to the Director of Financial Management, you will head the Strategic Finance Business Partnering (SFBP) function, setting the vision and direction for how finance works in partnership with senior colleagues across the Met.

In October 2025, the Met launched the second phase of its reform programme, A New Met for London 2 (NMfL 2). This programme focuses on strengthening the Met as an outstanding local police service for London, delivering improved outcomes for communities and helping to keep the public safe. NMfL 2 concentrates on the organisation’s efforts across five priority areas: community crime‑fighting, culture change, fixing our foundations, putting crime‑fighting first, and working in partnership.

Operating effectively at executive and board level, you will play a visible senior role across the Strategy & Investment Business Group. You will also build and support a high‑performing team of strategic finance professionals, ensuring consistent, forward‑looking support is delivered across a complex and evolving organisation.

Essential Knowledge and Experience
  • Fully qualified finance professional (CCAB or equivalent) with significant post‑qualification experience.
  • Extensive senior experience in strategic finance business partnering within a large complex organisation.
  • Proven ability to operate at executive and board level, influencing high‑value, high‑risk strategic decisions.
  • Strong expertise in public sector finance, governance, financial control and assurance.
  • Demonstrable experience leading organisation‑wide planning, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.
  • Track record of managing complex, multi‑billion‑pound budgets and identifying key financial risks and trends.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, building trusted relationships with senior leaders, oversight bodies and external partners.
  • Ability to produce and present high‑quality business cases, reports and briefings for senior audiences.
  • Proven leader of high‑performing teams, with strong people management, development and performance skills.
  • Experience driving a culture of value for money, financial discipline and continuous improvement.
  • Strong analytical judgement, resilience and confidence to challenge constructively and negotiate effectively.
