This is an exciting opportunity to join the Economic Crime – County Lines Team within Specialist Crime of the Metropolitan Police. We are looking for accredited financial confiscators to identify, restrain, seize, and confiscate criminal assets in line with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) 2002. The role holder will provide accredited confiscation expertise that supports County Lines investigations, will ensure compliance with statutory obligations, and contribute to income recovery via the Assets Recovery Incentivisation Scheme (ARIS).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct confiscation investigations by gathering, analysing and interpreting financial intelligence and data, ensuring evidence is robust and legally admissible.
- Apply POCA powers to restrain, seize, and forfeit assets including cash, bank accounts, listed assets and cryptocurrency, ensuring compliance with statutory frameworks and time limits.
- Prepare high‑quality evidential reports, statements and disclosure materials to support prosecutions and civil proceedings, enabling fair and lawful judicial decisions.
- Present cases and provide evidence in magistrates’ and crown courts, progressing seizure, forfeiture, restraint and confiscation applications without reliance on counsel where required. Attendance at court will be at least weekly and often 2‑3 times a week.
- Manage casework independently, prioritising workload in line with legal deadlines and court timetables to deliver timely outcomes.
- Collaborate with County Lines investigation teams, legal services, financial institutions and other agencies to secure information, progress cases and maximise asset recovery.
- Maintain professional accreditation as a confiscator, completing mandatory continuing professional development (CPD) and adhering to external regulatory standards.
Who we’re looking for
- In‑depth knowledge of POCA legislation, criminal law and the criminal justice system.
- Understanding of financial investigation techniques and warrant application processes.
- Skilled in financial analysis using systems such as Excel, Altia and Spidersense to interpret complex data.
- Clear, accurate written communication skills to produce evidential reports and disclosure materials.
- Confident oral communication skills to present evidence in court and engage with legal professionals.
- Ability to manage workload autonomously and make sound judgements under pressure.
- Interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues, agencies and members of the public.
- Experience conducting criminal investigations to Professionalising Investigation Programme (PIP) Level 2.
- Experience in conducting interviews with suspects, witnesses and victims.
- Experience in disclosure and handling sensitive information.
- Experience giving evidence in court proceedings.
- Experience reviewing and interpreting digital material.
