Detective Constable Entry Programme (DCEP): Start a career that matters and make a difference every day. This programme incorporates a 'uniform first' approach where you will spend time working in a front-line uniformed police constable role before starting your detective learning. It's a four-year programme based on the national policing curriculum, focusing on preparing you to become a substantive police constable and a well-rounded detective.
Pay: You will receive a starting salary of £42,210, which includes allowances. Your salary increases to £44,844 after two years for DCEP, upon satisfactory completion of probation. Salary may increase each year up to £59,994 after 5 years.
Eligibility: We encourage applications from those who share our values. To be eligible for our Detective Constable Entry Programme, you must hold or be working towards a recognised UK degree (level 6) qualification or an equivalent overseas degree supported by an ENIC Statement of Comparability, and a functional English Language Level 2 qualification.
Age: If you are 17 when you submit your application, you can progress through our recruitment process, but you cannot start your training until you are 18.
Nationality: If you're from outside the UK, it's essential that you have indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK.
Physical fitness: You will need to pass our fitness test and meet the police eyesight standards agreed by the College of Policing.
Tattoos: Some tattoos may prevent you from working for the Met depending on their depiction and location on your body.
Criminal conviction/caution: You can still apply if you have criminal convictions or cautions on record; eligibility will depend on the age and nature of the offence.
Membership of groups or organisations: You will not be able to join the Met if you are a member of a group or organisation that contradicts our values or ethics.
Training: Candidates must meet the essential requirements of the training programme and role, including conducting complex investigations, investigative interviews, and managing PIP2 investigations.
