The Position: We are looking for an ambitious and dynamic candidate who will join our team and help us take the food offering at Metropolitan to new heights. With four function rooms and a large Bar/Restaurant, there is plenty to do whether catering en-masse for 250 people or individual bar meals. We are looking for a person who can help us build a great reputation for great pub grub & fine food for functions. You will be required to work weekends as this is our busiest time of the week.
Your Duties:
- An extremely important part of the business is ensuring we have a well-trained and organised operations team that delivers great service to all our customers.
- Proven experience with Vegan & Healthy options.
- Stock management including ordering stock from appointed suppliers and price-checking suppliers regularly.
- Detailed food & allergies knowledge.
- General kitchen & bar duties.
- Maintaining kitchens, stock and equipment with high cleaning standards.
- Preparing food during special events e.g. Weddings.
- Work across all sections of the kitchen, maintaining consistency and attention to detail.
- Support senior chefs with menu development, kitchen organisation, and mentoring junior staff.
- Ensure all food hygiene and safety standards are met consistently.
- Contribute ideas and energy to a fast-paced, passionate team.
What We're Looking For:
- Minimum 1 years' experience as a CDP or Junior Sous in a professional kitchen.
- Background in both restaurant and banqueting/event-style service is highly desirable.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to work under pressure.
- A genuine passion for food, creativity, and commitment to high standards.
- Food hygiene certification (Level 2 minimum).

- An ability to think on your feet whilst under pressure and maintaining a positive outlook.

Who we are looking for:
Ideally, you will have previous experience in both a banqueting and casual dining environment. We are looking for someone who is friendly, outgoing and able to take on a challenge. You will have a professional, customer-focused approach and a can-do attitude. The ideal candidate will be commercially minded, well presented & professional, IT literate, and have a good working knowledge of POS systems.
The Company: Metropolitan is a venue previously known as Metropolitan Police Metropolitan. We operate a 36-acre sports facility in Hertfordshire, with an event space with 5 hireable rooms and a number of our own events. We want to provide a positive customer experience for all of our users at the Metropolitan.
