Perfect time to join the largest depot Engineering Team at Metroline Manchester as we have recently joined the Bee Network. As a Workshop Manager you will be reporting to the Engineering Manager and collaborating with the wider team to ensure the provision of sufficient vehicles at the required standard of reliability and presentation to meet our operational requirements.
The position requires you to have a comprehensive knowledge of Legal requirements and the Road transport Act relating to Passenger Carrying Vehicles. CPC would be an advantage, but training could be provided.
- Responsible for ensuring that sufficient serviceable vehicles are available at all times to meet operational requirements.
- Lead, coach and mentor a team of Engineers
- Responsible for organising and monitoring the daily maintenance of the engineering department, plant, tools and equipment to ensure these are kept at an appropriate standard commensurate with HSE requirements.
- Organise, control and monitor engineering and logistics activity at the depot level making use of company management systems such as Fleet Management System (FMS) where appropriate and as directed in company policy.
- Optimise staff costs, utilisation and performance, ensure the highest possible standards of maintenance, repair and reliability are achieved in keeping with the company’s undertakings to VOSA and TfGM [this management responsibility covers the full 24-hour operational day].
- Assisting Service Delivery Manager and SHEQ Business Partners to investigate and monitor vehicle accidents thereby minimising accident-related costs.
- Fully support Business Improvement initiatives and LEAN events, and pro-actively drive Continuous Improvement and Best Practice in your workshop team and depots.

Essential Criteria
- Must have a proven track record within engineering in the maintenance/repair of passenger carrying or large goods vehicles, including a comprehensive knowledge of vehicle systems and layouts. (HGV, PCV, Bus, Coach)
- Able to prioritise workload to meet deadlines within defined budgetary limits.
- Have a sound knowledge of, company vehicle types, maintenance procedures, working arrangements, and relevant VOSA legislation.
- Must have an Engineering qualification to at least an NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
Hours of Work
Full time permanent contract 38 weekly hours, 5 days over 7. Flexibility required for hours/days worked (including weekends) in line with operational requirements (may include early and late shift)
