Metroline Manchester is a recently formed subsidiary of ComfortDelGro. In March 2024, we were awarded contracts to operate four franchises and join the Bee Network in Greater Manchester by Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA). Metroline was formed in 1989 and is the fourth largest bus operator in London, running about 17 percent of the city’s scheduled bus services. Job Summary
As a Shunter/ Fueller, you will be responsible for fuelling, parking, and cleaning up our new fleet of state-of-the-art buses. This is a great opportunity for someone to join a great working environment as part of the Engineering dream team and partnering with the wider team in the Wythenshawe depot.
Main Responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring all vehicles are fuelled and that engine oil levels are checked each evening.
- Keep records of the amounts of fuel and oil issued to each bus.
- Responsible for keeping the relevant work area clean and tidy and to clean up spillages in accordance with Metroline’s Health and Safety policy and procedure.
- Responsible for washing the exterior of all buses by use of automatic bus wash and to wash wheels and skirt panels by hand.
- Responsible for shunting buses around in the garage and parking vehicles according to garage plan.
- Sweeping and cleaning the interior of the buses.
- Maintaining records and documents as required by Metroline Manchester.
- To undertake daily checks on the condition of the mechanical equipment used.
- Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of company vehicles to a high standard using mechanical, electrical, and manual cleaning equipment.
- Any other reasonable duties as directed by management that lies within the scope of the jobholder’s responsibilities.

Essential Criteria
- Cleaning techniques including the safe use of mechanical and manual equipment.
- An understanding of relevant safe working practices as required by COSHH regulations including the safe storage and disposal of highly corrosive and toxic materials.
- An understanding of the standards required by Metroline Manchester.
Desirable Criteria
- The post holder should possess or be willing to obtain a suitable qualification (e.g. NVQ level 1).
- A driving licence (preferably PCV) would be desirable.
