The Zero Emissions Logistics Assistant will be responsible for overseeing the overnight operations associated with the management of zero emissions vehicles to ensure maximum coverage or mileage is achieved in accordance with Metroline’s contractual obligations. To maintain relative operational activities in line with the performance of zero emission vehicles.
Ensure that appropriate health and safety standards are maintained (PPE, signage, contractor inductions) within their area of responsibility and conduct regular risk assessments where/when appropriate. Work with the night/day staff and cleaning contractors, conducting a series of emergency plans to deal with scenarios such as power failure, equipment failure, electrical fire or any other incident that could affect vehicle availability or charging processes.
Proactively manage/oversee charging times and ensure management of battery life is correctly utilised. Liaise with all internal and external parties in relation to issues/failures associated with zero emissions vehicles and/or infrastructure. Work closely with local engineering teams in respect of timely repair/rectifications of issues raised. Closely monitor cleaning contractors to ensure staff are fully trained to handle and operate charging equipment as well as adhere to charging/parking strategies.
Periodic review of all practices/processes associated with zero emission vehicles and infrastructure. Data gathering regarding effective charge event management, disruption and charge time requirements. Notify the Service Control team and support engineering with any issues associated with vehicular state of charge to assist with required reallocation. Undertake basic tasks under the guidance of the engineering team to prepare the fleet for service (training provided).
To develop and maintain effective communication relationships with garage support staff, service controllers, engineering staff, managers and the relevant external partners, including London Buses. To ensure that all relevant information relating to zero emission logistics is communicated to colleagues and other relevant parties. To ensure that Metroline’s company policies and procedures are complied with, especially in areas concerning the health and safety of staff and others as well as zero emission logistics.
The post holder will be expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner appropriate to the role at all times. An excellent performance and attendance record is essential. Hold a valid PCV driving licence including relevant CPC requirements. Demonstrable experience of working unsupervised, supporting members of staff and the delivery of service.
First aid and Fire Warden qualified (desirable). An understanding of geographical routes and depot logistics (desirable). Skilled in the use of IT systems, including Excel, Word, and E-mail. Excellent written and spoken English with the ability to communicate clearly and at all levels. Ability to operate as a team player. Ability to work well under pressure. Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. Must be proactive, methodical and results orientated. Highly organised, motivated and able to prioritise workload.
Ability to manage own workload effectively and work to strict deadlines. Ability to use initiative and identify solutions when a problem or difficult situation arises. Must be able to demonstrate credibility to build professional relationships with internal and external parties/stakeholders. Ability to collate and interpret statistical data. An understanding/appreciation of the service requirements and the management of day-to-day operational issues.
The job involves working shifts which can be scheduled at any time within the operational day. Shifts are rostered on a five nightly, 38-hour week basis which may include rostered weekends and bank holiday working. The nature of the position requires that from time-to-time irregular hours may be necessary.
