Job summary

The Senior Accountant will assist the Financial Controller with both the day to day management and development of the finance department to support the Metroline Group in its future growth. The position will champion a business partnering approach throughout the business and both demand and deliver quality information to drive value. The Senior Accountant will support the Financial Controller and the Finance Director in the planning, execution and management of the Finance strategy including the relationships with our finance service partners. Additionally this role will engage with Heads of Department and Garage Management roles to ensure that the day-to-day running of the business is correctly managed as well as supporting and delivering business plans and objectives.

The role will also include carrying out Company Secretarial duties for the Group including:

  • filing of documents at Companies House
  • the drafting and issuing of minutes and related documents
  • other ad hoc duties in relation to Company Secretarial matters

Main Responsibilities

  • Delivering information to the business that is accurate, timely, user-friendly, concise and fundamentally adds value;
  • Working with each team within the business to evaluate the key reporting requirements, agree format and content and ensure all users can understand the message;
  • Falcon Coachworks / Business Development:
  • Weekly invoicing / credit control / refurbishment tracking
  • Monthly Management Accounts
  • Balance Sheet Reconciliations
  • Monthly Reforecasts
  • Annual Budget
  • Facility Costs:
  • Monthly Accruals and Prepayment Calculations
  • Monthly analysis file by type of spend within each GL code
  • Monthly Review Meeting with Facilities Manager
  • Metroline London
  • Garage and Training Packs
  • Balance Sheet Reconciliations
  • Month End Timetable
  • Prompt Payment Report (Twice a Year)
  • BACS Payments Checks
  • Ensure total integrity and transparency of all reporting and financial data;
  • Promote team work within the Finance function and improve the teamโ€™s knowledge and confidence;
  • Ensure that financial controls are effective and operating appropriately.
  • Attend training courses / meetings when required;
  • Undertake such duties as may reasonably be required by the Financial Controller;
  • Assist and participate in such projects that may require joint input by the Heads of Departments;

Essential Criteria for application

  • Demonstrable experience of good all round accounts experience including management accounts, analysis and balance sheet reconciliations;
  • Skilled in the use of IT systems, specifically Oracle and also PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook;
  • Flexible approach to working hours.
  • An understanding/appreciation of the service requirements and the management of day to day operational issues;
  • Ability to manage own workload effectively and work to deadlines;
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills;
  • Exceptional customer service skills with a natural flair of providing support and guidance and going โ€˜the extra mileโ€™;
  • Ability to use initiative and identify solutions when a problem or difficult situation arises;
  • Excellent written and spoken English with the ability to communicate at all levels;
  • Ability to influence and persuade key decision makers;
  • Ability to interpret and present statistical data;
  • Able to build lasting relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Must be a team player and willing to develop others to increase team and individual performance.

Hours of work

38 hours per week, Monday to Friday but must be flexible to work over and above these hours if deemed necessary.

Minimum of 3 working days in the office or on site, subject to change in the future.
