To assess prospective Metroline driver candidates who currently hold a standard UK car licence (Category B) to determine their suitability for PCV driver training. The role focuses on evaluating road safety awareness, driving behaviour, and personal aptitude to identify individuals who can be successfully trained to become professional bus drivers.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct structured car-driving assessments with non-PCV applicants to evaluate their road awareness, control, judgement, and safe driving habits.
- Assess candidate temperament, attitude, and communication to determine suitability for customer-facing driving roles.
- Provide fair, objective feedback to each candidate based on their performance.
- Complete written assessment reports and make clear pass/fail or development recommendations.
- Collaborate closely with the recruitment team to ensure a high-quality intake of candidates with strong potential for PCV training.
- Advise on training pathways or coaching needs for borderline applicants.
- Promote the company’s values of safety, reliability, and professionalism from the first stage of a candidate’s journey.
- Help maintain high standards of entry into the driver training programme.
- Assist with other tasks within the Recruitment Department as required, including administrative duties such as scheduling assessments, updating records, managing paperwork, and supporting recruitment events.
Essential Criteria
- Full, clean UK driving licence (Category B).
- Strong driving record with solid knowledge of UK Highway Code and road safety principles.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to objectively assess and document candidate performance.
- Confident decision-making and professionalism.
Competencies & Desirable Skills
- Previous experience in driver assessment, training, or coaching.
- Assessor qualification or training background (e.g., PTLLS, RTITB).
- PCV licence and Driver CPC (advantageous but not required for this role).
Hours of work
Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturdays depending on recruitment volumes. Typical hours: 08:00 – 16:00 or as required.
