SCCL is comprised of three brands, Scottish Citylink, Megabus and Falcon, which together generate annual revenues in the region of £65m per annum running bus and coach services in Scotland, England and Wales. The head office is located within Buchanan Bus Station, Glasgow.
Job Summary
The Assistant Management Accountant (ASM) will assist with the preparation of the period-end management accounts and annual financial statements, including the preparation of journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations. The ASM will own the accounts receivable function and be responsible for debt collection as well as providing support to the outsourced accounts payable function.
Main Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of Period End and Annual Accounts in accordance with the Group reporting deadlines, including the posting of journal entries.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations including prepayments, accruals and GRNI.
- Perform daily cashbook postings and support cash collection and reconciliation.
- Co-ordination of the monthly credit card journals and accruals.
- Ownership of the fixed asset register, including all depreciation postings and review of assets under construction.
- Ownership of the Accounts Receivable ledger, including debt recovery, the raising of sales invoices and group reporting of aged debt.
- Liaise and support the outsourced accounts payable function, including raising purchase orders as and when required.
- Assist with the preparation of quarterly VAT returns.
- Active involvement during the annual financial audit.
- Raise manual bank payments.
- Ad hoc financial analysis as requested by the local management team or group finance team.
- Continuous improvement of financial processes and controls.
- To undertake any other reasonable tasks requested by the Finance Manager or Senior management team.
Competencies & Skills
- Previous Experience as an assistant management accountant or similar level.
- Part Qualified Accountant or Qualified by experience with an excellent understanding of fundamental accounting principles and the application of them in practice.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications with strong Excel skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English with the ability to communicate clearly and at all levels.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Organised, proactive, methodical and results oriented.
- Ability to manage own workload effectively with minimal supervision and work to strict deadlines.
- Experience of accounting software (Oracle or SAP are advantageous, but not necessary).
- Team player committed to ensuring that the overall team and business objectives are met.
Hours of Work
Monday – Friday – 22.8 hours per week. Based within Buchanan Bus Station with flexibility to work from home one day a week.
