Job Description

This role would suit an experienced Mechanical Engineer and will involve the design and development of new and existing surface and downhole tools.

The successful applicant will work primarily within the Mechanical arm of the R&D department to expand and enhance the range of services that Metrol provides.

The role offers the opportunity to work on leading edge technology in the well test and production areas of the Oil & Gas industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design of mechanical components and systems
  • Complete stress analysis calculations
  • Generate CAD models and drawings (layouts, assemblies, detail, client etc)
  • Generate engineering documentation (procedures, reports etc.)
  • Check engineering documents
  • Perform test build & prototype testing of new equipment
  • Advise on ordering of equipment for new tools and development work
  • Participate in design reviews
  • Support internal and external customers on technical queries
  • Maintain design files & related documentation
  • Support operations by working at client sites (onshore and offshore) as and when required

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or relevant Science & 4-6 years’ experience in the design and development of downhole tools
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • CAD & PDM application skills (Ideally Autodesk Inventor & Vault)
  • Use of MS Office applications
  • Experience with mechanical components
  • Experience with downhole tools in the oil and gas sector
  • Stress analysis calculation skills
  • Materials knowledge – metals and elastomers
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Math CAD
  • Project Engineering skills
  • Knowledge of national and international standards related to Oilfield equipment.
