This position is part of a unionized bargaining unit. The hourly wage for this position is starting at 16.60, which is established in accordance with the collective agreement. Depending on a candidate's relevant knowledge, skills, education and prior experience, a higher hourly wage may be offered. Any hourly wage offered for this role, whether it is the starting wage or higher, will be within the wage scale established for this position in accordance with the collective agreement.

As a Front-End Clerk, you will be the face of our brand, sharing your enthusiasm for food and exceptional service with everyone who walks through our doors. Our front-end team is essential to the success of Metro, and we are looking for individuals who enjoy meeting new people and helping others. What You’ll Do:

  • Greet customers warmly as they enter the store.
  • Address customer inquiries and assist with locating products.
  • Handle customer complaints and resolve issues promptly.
  • Scan items quickly and accurately.
  • Process various forms of payment (cash, credit/debit cards, gift cards).
  • Process returned items.
  • Provide receipts and any necessary change.
  • Offer assistance with loyalty programs or coupons.
  • Maintain an accurate cash drawer.
  • Perform cash drops and prepare cash deposits as required.
  • Balance the cash register at the end of the shift.
  • Keep the checkout area clean and organized.
  • Follow store policies and procedures to ensure safety and security.
  • Report any spills, hazards, or equipment issues to management.
  • Work with other team members to ensure store operations run smoothly.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and other departments.
  • Assist team members with put aways/returns.

Qualifications:

  • Customer service driven.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Retail experience is considered an asset.
  • High attention to detail and basic level of numeracy skills.
  • Basic computer and register skills is an asset.
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be available to work flexible shifts which may include nights, weekends and holidays.
