Metro Rod North East Northumberland, Newcastle, Durham, Teeside – Full time permanent – Salary £38,000 - £42,000 depending on experience plus benefits & overtime.

Founded in 1983, Metro Rod and its sister company Metro Plumb provide drain clearance and maintenance services across the UK. We serve a range of commercial clients in property, retail, industrial and leisure sectors.

What does it entail?

  • Work on client sites performing general electrical and mechanical engineering duties to ensure pump systems operate as specified.
  • Carry out maintenance, repairs, commissioning and installations of pump stations and associated equipment nationwide.
  • Participate in the emergency call‑out rota.
  • Work with grey‑water and effluent systems and operate within confined spaces.
  • Communicate effectively with the service team, providing reports and photos via PDA and mobile phone.
  • Deliver professional, positive service to customers.
  • Work independently or as part of a team.

What experience do we look for?

  • Proven experience with grey‑water and effluent systems/submersible pumping stations.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical skills.
  • 18th Edition qualification.
  • 3–5 years of pump maintenance or similar role.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills for centrifugal and submersible sewage pumps.
  • Experience lifting, replacing, and installing pumps and pipework.
  • Full clean UK driving licence.
  • Ability to work remotely and on the emergency call‑out rota.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Independence and teamwork capability.
