Senior Civils & Drainage Engineer Metro Rod Lancashire Salary £36,000–£42,000 per year plus additional hours and benefits

Metro Rod provides drainage clearance, repair and maintenance services to commercial and domestic customers across the UK. We’re proud of our reputation for quality service and customer satisfaction, with customers across the Facilities Management, Social Housing, Property Management, Retail, Industrial and Leisure sectors.

Metro Rod Lancashire is creating a dedicated Civils & Installations division to deliver larger drainage replacement, excavation, pumping station, septic tank and sewage treatment projects generated through our existing drainage operation.

The role:

This is a varied, hands‑on opportunity for an experienced civils and drainage professional who wants to play a key part in developing a new division. Initially, you’ll deliver projects on site, taking the lead on works, supporting other engineers and ensuring jobs are completed safely and to a high standard.

As the division grows, there is the opportunity to build a team around you and progress towards taking responsibility for running the division. This would suit an experienced senior engineer or site supervisor with strong practical knowledge, confidence leading jobs and the ambition to take the next step.

What does it entail?

  • Leading and completing civils and drainage works, including excavations, drainage repairs, pipework replacement, reinstatement, manhole repairs and other remedial works.
  • Delivering installation projects involving pumping stations, septic tanks and sewage treatment systems.
  • Supervising engineers and assistants on site, allocating tasks and providing practical support and technical guidance.
  • Taking responsibility for site Health & Safety, ensuring RAMS are understood and followed, appropriate barriers and controls are in place, and changing site conditions are assessed.
  • Investigating drainage issues and identifying the most appropriate solution.
  • Liaising with the office regarding additional works, materials, equipment, timescales and information required for quotations.
  • Operating 360° excavators and site dumpers safely and confidently.
  • Providing an exceptional standard of customer service, keeping customers informed throughout the works.
  • Accurately recording job details and ensuring sites are left safe, clean and tidy.
  • Helping develop the new division and supporting the growth of its team.

What experience do we look for?

  • A minimum of two years’ experience in drainage and civils.
  • Strong practical knowledge of excavation, drainage repairs, pipe laying, manholes, reinstatement and fault finding.
  • Experience leading jobs and supervising engineers or assistants on site.
  • A sound understanding of safe excavation, underground services, RAMS and safe systems of work.
  • Experience operating 360° excavators and site dumpers, ideally with current CPCS, NPORS or equivalent certification.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability and confidence making practical decisions on site.
  • Strong communication skills and a professional approach to customers and colleagues.
  • A positive, flexible, can‑do attitude.
  • The ambition to build a team and take on greater responsibility within a growing business.

What will you receive?

  • Salary of £36,000–£42,000 per year.
The opportunity to help build and ultimately lead a dedicated Civils & Installations division.
  • Company pension.
  • Company events.
  • Employee discount.
  • Referral programme.

We are an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified individuals regardless of age, disability, gender identity, marriage or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
