The position of Senior Naturalist requires practical and supervisory experience in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a diverse range of educational and recreational programs related to the natural and cultural history of Lorain County. Applicants should have a Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Natural Resources, Biology, Environmental Studies, or a related field. Five or more years of experience in the above fields, or equivalent, is required.
INTERNAL POSTING DATES: Thursday, January 29 through Monday, February 9, 2026
PAY RATE: $37,000 to $72,000, commensurate with experience.

Requirements
- The Senior Naturalist requires experience in developing, assigning, adjusting, requesting, implementing, and evaluating an assigned budget.
- The position requires experience in the scheduling, supervising, assigning, hiring, training, and evaluation of full-time, part-time, seasonal, and volunteer staff.
- Practical and supervisory experience is also necessary for developing and fabricating temporary and permanent displays and exhibits.
- Knowledge and experience with captive wild animal care – including, but not limited to, local amphibians, reptiles, and birds – with emphasis on care, handling, and programming of raptors is required.
- Facility set-up and maintenance duties are also required.
- The position additionally requires outstanding oral and written communication skills and courteous and professional ability in working with large and diverse groups of people.
- Experience assisting with public inquiries is a must.
- The position also performs related duties as apparent and assigned.
- Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license.
- New employees must satisfactorily complete a background check.
- Lorain County Metropolitan Park District policy prohibits hiring new employees who are tobacco users.
