What you will do:
- Collaborate with a team of credit underwriters whose role is to underwrite Corporate Banking propositions from the Structured Finance team, including Net Asset Value lending, Private Equity sponsored lending, and Wholesale Funding - personally underwriting such propositions.
- Coach colleagues in their responsibilities to deliver support to First Line of Defence colleagues the Metro Bank way.
- Work collegiately with senior management team members, particularly the Director of Corporate Banking and Head of Structured Finance and their direct reports. Influence teams across Credit, and the wider Bank, coaching and developing less experienced colleagues.
- Ensure acceptable lending asset quality is maintained when originating new customer exposures, and ongoing via individual and wider existing customer portfolio management activities, reacting appropriately to early warning signs. Ensure compliance with Metro Bank’s relevant lending policies, standards & processes.
- Maintain a positive, flexible, and pragmatic outlook in a pressured environment to help the bank achieve its growth objectives.
- Inspire colleagues to lend the Metro Bank way, focusing on the ‘who’ element and having a deep understanding of repayment sources - as well as building on your own sectoral and product knowledge.
- Operate with the responsibility of an individual personal Lending Authority. Present, analyse, and critique more complex lending propositions for review by higher authority holders – including the Lead Credit Partner, Head of Corporate & Commercial Credit and Credit Approval Committee.
- Help to develop Credit Policy, Standards, and Procedures in a dynamic environment to enable the bank to support customers in a prudent way, including various Credit Risk based projects.
What you will need:
- Understand the risks associated with your job and what that means for you, Metro Bank and all our stakeholders.
- Commercial / Corporate Credit Underwriting expertise, including Net Asset Value lending and/or Private Equity sponsored lending and/or Wholesale Funding experience.
- Experience working as a Credit Partner, Relationship Manager and/or distressed debt management/work-out.
- Excellent stakeholder management & engagement skills.
- Knowledge of Commercial lending and general banking and finance – including relevant legal concepts and issues.
- Problem solving combined with excellent negotiation skills.
- Wider commercial/corporate and economic knowledge and awareness.
