Overview

You will be at the forefront of customer interactions, providing exceptional service and understanding which products and services meet customers’ needs.

You will work as part of a team, prioritising tasks to respond to changing customer demand and contribute to store objectives.

You will stay up to date with regulatory and non‑regulatory training to ensure we are compliant and fair in all transactions.

This is a banking role where risk is a consideration in all activities.

Responsibilities

  • Build effective customer relationships in a fast‑paced environment while delivering exceptional service.
  • Identify customer needs and provide appropriate banking guidance and solutions.
  • Escalate concerns and call out risks to protect customers and the business.
  • Work as part of a team, prioritise tasks, and support store objectives.
  • Maintain meticulous attention to detail, even under pressure.
  • Stay informed about products, services, and regulatory requirements relevant to banking.
  • Develop knowledge of banking processes and risk implications for customers and Metro Bank.
  • Utilise computer skills, including Microsoft Office, to support daily responsibilities.
  • Handle customer service queries in an environment with controlled processes.
  • Working Arrangements & Training

This is a full‑time role, 37.5 hours across 5 days a week.

Training is split between Gateshead and another Metro Bank location and may require travel.

If training takes place beyond the local area, travel and hotel costs are fully reimbursed.

Working hours: 8:45am – 5:15pm or 9:00am – 5:30pm, five days a week.

You are not expected to work every Saturday; a day off will be provided in the week if you are working.

Shifts are shared equally and planned well in advance.

We aim to accommodate personal needs where possible.

Training includes a blend of live team sessions, guided study in our online training suite, and on‑the‑job training (observing, buddying, and serving customers), paced with input from your manager.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Ability to build and maintain effective customer relationships in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy under pressure.
  • Clear understanding of the risks associated with the role and their implications for customers and Metro Bank.
  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in handling customer service queries and operating in an environment with controlled processes. Banking experience is not always required.
