Through analysis and investigation, the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) develops Metro Bankâs capability for effectively managing money laundering and terrorist financing risk. Using extensive previous financial crime and data analysis experience, the Financial Intelligence Unit Analyst identifies and analyzes MI, customer data and activity, and financial material in a highly objective and strategic manner, to provide and own intelligenceâbased recommendations that lead operational direction for the FIU and other stakeholders.
The desirable candidate will be a financial crime analyst who is able to convert indicators, red flags and typologies into actionable SQL queries across complex customer and transactional datasets. They will also be a proactive trend/threat identifier, shape tactical and strategic intelligence to guide FIU resources and priorities, and possess strong stakeholder communication and management skills, presenting advanced analytical findings to nonâtechnical audiences with clarity and impact.
What You Will Do
- Recommend operational direction to the FIU and AML Investigations, including specific target groups, typologies and trends.
- Interpret detailed and complex information, challenge faceâvalue evidence in a strategic way and produce wellâinformed analytical reports.
- Gather, develop and interpret information from a wide range of internal and external sources and recommend direction to the FIU and other stakeholders.
- Provide and own intelligenceâbased recommendations to enhance AML/CTF controls and risk mitigation strategies, applying sound judgment to uncover risks, issues and control weaknesses with an objective and factâbased approach.
- Receive and gather information and intelligence from various internal and external sources and compile analytical findings for the FIU.
- Conduct a strategic review of internal and external data and disseminate analytical reports to the FIU with recommendations of future action.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of analysis, findings and decisions.
- Receive and review information from additional external stakeholders (e.g. JMLIT red alerts, Home Office circulars, minutes from external meetings) to disseminate insights to the FIU and AML Investigations teams.
- Identify bank control gaps and liaise with the Risk Team to compile business risk alerts.
- Respond to general FIU business enquiries and develop and maintain senior working relationships with the wider business.
- Assist or undertake AML/CTF investigations where required.
What You Will Need
- Experience working in financial services within a financial crime analysisâbased role.
- Experience in the identification, assessment and triaging of complex allegations, and in recommending investigative strategy.
- A proven track record of seeking out opportunities for innovation and driving and delivering change for continuous improvement and efficiency.
- Strong analytical skills required to organise and analyse multiple, complex data sets and transaction information.
- Excellent discretion and integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Good stakeholder management and relationship building skills.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Excel with experience of undertaking inâdepth transactional analysis, to identify themes and trends.
- A strong understanding of the requirements of the Money Laundering Regulations and the Joint Money Laundering Steering Group Guidance.
- Excellent knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework and the regulatory environment.
- Familiar with/open to learning constructing SQL queries and analysing data sets to identify themes and trends.
