The Opportunity
We are looking for experienced Underwriters (any sector) to join us to help MetLife become the best in the Employee Benefits market. We need Underwriters to come on board with a good ability to assess risk and decide where to price the risk within company strategy and guidelines.
How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)
- Responsible for underwriting Group Life and/or Group Income Protection quotations for renewals and new business in a timely manner within agreed internal procedures to achieve service standards and exceed our annual sales target.
- To support key strategic relationships within Sales, Actuarial and other business departments by making pragmatic and commercially focused underwriting decisions to help achieve sales, profitability, and retention targets.
- Training less experienced members of the Employee Benefits division, checking and sampling their work against the agreed procedures.
- Represent the Underwriting department by supporting key Client Relationship meetings along with Sales Business Development Managers & Operations.
- To provide technical underwriting support to the Sales team, where appropriate.
- In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder may be required to perform other duties as reasonable assigned by the Manager from time to time.
What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)
- Experience working in an Underwriting function. You can be an Underwriter from any sector and any industry, but you will need pricing experience.
- Able to handle the demands of working in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to manage own work and deadlines, communicating coherently across functions if required.
- A desire to proactively learn and develop yourself.
- Experience in supporting key clients (brokers) as a key customer segmented contact point, occasionally attending and hosting client visits, and joining the Sales Business Development Manager.
- Ability to challenge existing ways of working for the best outcome for the company and customer.
- Able and willing to work in the Brighton head office on a hybrid basis (2 days a month, depending on business requirements). Remote considered if the Office is not within a commutable distance.
