We are currently looking for a Subcontracts Supervisor to join our EGL1 Contracts & Commercial department as part of the Thermal Power & HVDC division of Metlen Energy & Metals, based in Newcastle. Your role will encompass:
- Drafting, negotiating, and administering contracts to ensure compliance, mitigate risks, and maximize commercial benefits throughout the project lifecycle.
- Managing schedule performance, progress measurement from a quantitative and qualitative view.
- Ability to manage multiple and multidiscipline contracts and work with site teams to control interfaces.
- In cooperation with the legal team, ensure contracts comply with legal and regulatory requirements in the energy sector.
- Support Senior Project Leadership team on managing contract execution, amendments, and close-out processes.
- Identify and mitigate contractual risks to prevent disputes and financial losses.
- Support internal teams in monitoring contract performance and ensure compliance with contractual obligations, timelines, and deliverables.
- Handle claims, variations, and dispute resolution processes effectively in cooperation with Senior Project Leadership team.
- Act as the key point of contact for contractual matters with internal teams.
- Participate in negotiations with contractors and suppliers supporting PM and procurement/construction teams to secure favourable terms.
- Support commercial and procurement teams in supplier evaluations and selection processes.
What you bring to the role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Law, Quantity Surveying, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree is considered an asset).
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in contracts management within EPC / construction / energy / infrastructure projects, with a strong focus on subcontractor (downstream) contracts.
- Proven experience in drafting, negotiating, and administering subcontracts, including handling variations, claims, and dispute resolution.
- Solid understanding of contractual frameworks (e.g. NEC, FIDIC or equivalent) and commercial terms in large-scale projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage the full subcontract lifecycle, from tendering and award through to close-out.
- Strong knowledge of commercial risk management, cost control principles, and contractual entitlements.
- Experience working in multinational, cross-functional project environments, collaborating with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Legal teams.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to operate in fast-paced, site-based environments with multiple subcontractors and tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in contract management systems and MS Office tools (experience with ERP systems is an asset).
- Fluency in English (additional languages are a plus depending on project location).
