We are building a permanent AMS capability to support a set of critical government services and are looking for an experienced AMS Engineer to be part of that foundation. This role combines hands-on technical support with long-term ownership of applications, service quality, and operational improvement. You will play a key role in improving stability, resilience, and supportability of systems over time. This is a technical engineering position operating at 2nd/3rd line, closely aligned with development and delivery teams.
Requirements:
- Provide 2nd / 3rd line support for live and pre-production applications
- Own incidents through investigation, resolution, and closure, including root cause analysis
- Work with developers and infrastructure teams on root cause and permanent fixes
- Execute and maintain smoke test for application and daily operational checks and reports
- Analyse logs, metrics, and monitoring data to diagnose issues
- Support releases and deployments, including out-of-hours activity where required
- Work within ITIL-aligned processes (Incident, Problem, Change)
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders during incidents and service disruptions
- Strong experience in Application Support / AMS / Production Support
- Proven troubleshooting experience in distributed backend systems
- Comfortable working directly on Servers (Linux/Windows) to diagnose issues
- Shell scripting and/or Node.js
- Java (debugging and OO concepts)
- RESTful APIs
- SQL / PostgreSQL
- Jenkins and CI/CD pipelines
- Usage of tools like Confluence, Halo/ServiceNow, Jira, etc
- Application servers' knowledge
- Confident working in live service environments under pressure
Desirable:
- Excellent communication & written skills
- Microservice-based architectures
- Ability to work independently, learn applications quickly, and adapt in a BAU support environment
- Automation or scripting to improve operational efficiency
- Experience supporting public sector or regulated systems
- Minimum 3 to 5 years' experience within an application support role
Additional Information:
- This role involves rotational shift working (Monday to Saturday 08:00 - 20:00)
- SC clearance is required for access to systems
- Immediate impact and rapid onboarding expected
