Senior AI Automation Engineer | 100,000-120,000 London or Birmingham | Hybrid - 3 days per week in the officeWe're looking for a Senior AI Automation Engineer to join a growing specialist AI engineering capability within a major UK company.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing and delivering production-grade AI applications, intelligent agents and automated workflows within a large, governed enterprise environment. You'll work across Microsoft Copilot, Python, Power Platform and Azure, combining modern software engineering with AI and workflow automation to build solutions that move beyond proof-of-concept and into real-world production use.

The roleYou'll sit at the intersection of AI engineering, software development and intelligent automation, taking ownership of the technical design and delivery of AI-powered solutions used across the business.

Your work will include: Designing and building AI agents and multi-step automated workflowsDeveloping production-grade Python services, APIs and automation pipelinesBuilding solutions using Microsoft Copilot Studio and Power PlatformOrchestrating workflows across Copilot Studio, Azure AI / Azure AI Foundry and internal enterprise systemsIntegrating AI applications with existing platforms through REST/GraphQL APIs and event-driven architecturesDeveloping reusable connectors, tools, services and agent capabilitiesDesigning agent orchestration, tool-use and integration patternsBuilding CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworksDeploying and monitoring AI applications in productionEnsuring solutions are scalable, observable, secure and maintainableLeading technical design discussions and code reviewsHelping establish engineering standards and supporting the development of more junior engineersWhat we're looking forWe're looking for an experienced engineer who combines strong software engineering fundamentals with practical experience delivering AI and automation solutions.

Strong commercial Python engineering experience, including APIs, testing, modular architecture and asynchronous processingStrong experience with Microsoft Copilot / Copilot StudioStrong experience with Microsoft Power Platform and workflow automationExperience building and deploying production AI/LLM applications, agents or AI-powered workflowsExperience with Azure OpenAI, Azure AI / AI Foundry or comparable AI platformsUnderstanding of agentic AI patterns, orchestration, tool use, prompt design and LLM limitationsStrong API and systems integration experience, including REST and/or GraphQLExperience designing reusable services, connectors and integration componentsMicrosoft Azure experience across services such as Functions, containers and AI servicesStrong CI/CD, Git and automated testing experienceExperience with Docker, Kubernetes or Azure Container AppsAn understanding of production monitoring, reliability and observabilityExperience with MCP or similar integration patterns, AI governance, prompt evaluation/versioning, event-driven systems or highly regulated environments would be particularly valuable.
