About the Role

Our client, a globally recognised luxury retail organisation, is undergoing a significant transformation of its technology landscape, moving towards a modern, cloud-native, and hybrid infrastructure model. They are seeking a Principal Infrastructure Engineer / Platform Lead (Enterprise Services - Data Centre) to play a key role in shaping and delivering infrastructure strategy over the next 3-5 years. This will cover both their current on-prem data centres and driving their move to the cloud as part of their cloud strategy. They will take on the current IT strategy and drive it to delivery through the creation of the roadmaps, principles, and guiderails, while evolving the strategy alongside the Architecture teams. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership position, combining strategic ownership with deep technical involvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver a 3-5 year infrastructure roadmap aligned to business objectives
  • Lead the transition to cloud-native and hybrid infrastructure (Azure-focused)
  • Define and implement infrastructure standards, governance, and best practices
  • Design and maintain resilient, scalable, and evergreen platforms
  • Provide technical leadership across infrastructure services
  • Collaborate with Architecture, Security, and Engineering teams to deliver secure and agile solutions
  • Drive adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation
  • Support both business-as-usual operations and transformation initiatives
  • Identify risks and recommend strategic infrastructure solutions
  • Mentor and develop engineering teams, promoting modern ways of working

Required Experience

Technical Skills

  • Strong background in enterprise infrastructure environments
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • VMware (VCF)
    • Microsoft Azure
    • Linux
    • Kubernetes
    • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, Git-based workflows)
  • Proven experience delivering hybrid cloud solutions and migrations

Leadership & Strategy

  • Experience leading infrastructure transformation programmes
  • Ability to define and execute long-term technology strategies and roadmaps
  • Strong stakeholder management across technical and business teams
  • Experience driving modern engineering practices and cultural change
