Key Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities for new products and develop these to the proof of concept stage
  • Perform verification analysis to understand forecast skill
  • Maintain and update existing archives and climatological datasets
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in both traditional and ML-based weather forecasting
  • Work closely with our development teams to hand over prototyped solutions
  • Represent the organisation at scientific conferences and industry meetings where appropriate

Required Skills & Experience

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Meteorology, Physics, Atmospheric Science, or a related field
  • Knowledge of statistical methods to perform verification of forecast versus actuals
  • Experience with Git/GitHub and collaborative software development
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • UK resident or valid UK work permit
  • Experience using Python ML frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch to train ML models for gridded and single point data
  • Knowledge of the Transport and/or Energy sectors
  • Experience using common meteorological data formats – eg, observations, satellite, grib and NetCDF
