Key Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities for new products and develop these to the proof of concept stage
- Perform verification analysis to understand forecast skill
- Maintain and update existing archives and climatological datasets
- Stay abreast of the latest developments in both traditional and ML-based weather forecasting
- Work closely with our development teams to hand over prototyped solutions
- Represent the organisation at scientific conferences and industry meetings where appropriate
Required Skills & Experience
- Master's or Ph.D. in Meteorology, Physics, Atmospheric Science, or a related field
- Knowledge of statistical methods to perform verification of forecast versus actuals
- Experience with Git/GitHub and collaborative software development
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and in a collaborative team environment
- UK resident or valid UK work permit
- Experience using Python ML frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch to train ML models for gridded and single point data
- Knowledge of the Transport and/or Energy sectors
- Experience using common meteorological data formats – eg, observations, satellite, grib and NetCDF
