MetalBear is a fast-growing, product-led startup in the developer tools space. We build tools that help developers move faster and safer in cloud-native environments. Our flagship open-source product, mirrord, lets developers run local code as if it’s already deployed - bridging the gap between local development and production reality. We’re backed by world-class investors, loved by a fast-growing OSS community, and our paid offering is generating significant revenue. Now, we’re expanding our product organization and looking for a Technical Product Manager to help shape the future of mirrord and the broader MetalBear platform.
You’ll join as the first Technical Product Manager working alongside the Head of Product. This role is ideal for someone who is deeply technical, passionate about developer experience, and excited to build products for engineers working in modern cloud environments. This is a unique opportunity to help define product foundations, partner closely with engineering, and influence a category-defining product loved by developers.
What You’ll Do
- Break down product goals into actionable tasks and manage their execution including research, scoping, deep technical specs, prioritization, delivery, and validation.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure alignment between product vision and technical constraints.
- Analyze usage data, customer feedback, and production behavior to guide roadmap decisions.
- Maintain a high technical bar for the product, ensuring solutions are reliable, scalable, and intuitive for engineers.
- Deeply understand pain points of developers building cloud-native applications.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience who is passionate about or already transitioned into product management.
- Ability to deeply understand engineering discussions, technical challenges, and technical docs; you don’t need to write production code, but you must be fluent in the world engineers live in.
- Familiarity with cloud development concepts and technologies, specifically Kubernetes.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken, and ability to switch between technical deep-dives with engineers and user-focused thinking for product decisions.
- Thrives in a fast-paced, remote-first, async-friendly culture.
- Strong sense of ownership with a bias for clarity, impact, and iteration.
Advantages
- Experience as a Product manager.
- Experience working with products built for developers, especially in areas like runtimes, debugging, local dev tooling, environments, CI/CD, or infra orchestration.
