At Metador, we're growing, investing and continuously improving how we operate. As we continue to expand, we're looking for an experienced Senior HSE Advisor / HSE Manager to take ownership of health, safety and environmental performance across our business.

This is much more than a compliance role.

We're looking for someone who can influence culture, build engagement, challenge standards, and ensure that health, safety and environmental thinking is embedded into everything we do. You'll work directly with operational leaders and the Senior Leadership Team, helping create an environment where people go home safe every day and operational excellence can thrive.

The opportunity

As our Senior HSE Advisor / HSE Manager, you will act as the company's competent person for health and safety, providing expert guidance whilst leading the development of practical, effective systems that support both compliance and operational performance.

You'll have the opportunity to influence the business at every level, from shop floor teams through to senior leadership, helping drive a positive safety culture built around accountability, engagement and continuous improvement.

This role offers genuine ownership. You'll lead health, safety and environmental initiatives across manufacturing, warehouse and office operations, shaping how we manage risk, develop people and continuously improve our standards.

What you'll be doing

As our HSE lead, you will:

• Develop and deliver Metador's health, safety and environmental strategy.
• Drive a positive, proactive safety culture through coaching, engagement and visible leadership.
• Act as the business's subject matter expert on all HSE matters.
• Support managers in understanding and delivering their health and safety responsibilities.
• Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation.
• Lead relationships with external bodies including the HSE, Environment Agency and local authorities where required.
• Develop and review risk assessments, COSHH assessments and safe systems of work.
• Conduct audits, inspections and compliance reviews across the business.
• Lead accident, incident and near-miss investigations using root cause analysis techniques.
• Manage RIDDOR reporting and corrective action programmes.
• Deliver toolbox talks, safety campaigns and training initiatives.
• Monitor environmental performance and support sustainability initiatives.
• Lead the development and continual improvement of HSE policies, procedures and systems.
• Support ISO management systems and external certification audits.
• Manage contractor approval processes, RAMS reviews and permit-to-work activities.
• Produce meaningful KPI reports that drive business improvement.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone with a strong practical understanding of health and safety, combined with the ability to influence behaviours and drive meaningful improvements.

You will ideally bring:

• Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation.
• Experience working within a manufacturing, engineering, fabrication or similar industrial environment.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills.
• The ability to engage and build credibility with employees at every level.
• Strong investigation and problem-solving capability.
• Experience conducting risk assessments and implementing practical control measures.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced operational environment.
• Experience supporting continuous improvement and cultural change programmes.
• Experience of ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 management systems would be advantageous.
• Internal or Lead Auditor experience would be beneficial.

Qualifications

Essential

• NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.

Desirable

• NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6 Occupational Health & Safety.
• IOSH Membership (Tech IOSH, Cert IOSH or Grad IOSH).
• Chartered IOSH status, or working towards it.
• Lead Auditor qualification.
• Environmental qualification such as IEMA or equivalent.

Package

Salary £45k+ but broad depending on experience. We want the right person

Bonus - quarterly bonus scheme based on the company profits continuing to grow

Holidays - 24 days increasing 1 per year for the first 4 years + 8 bank holidays

Pension is Auto Enrolment

Working Hours - 7am - 4pm. The site work on either 5am-1.30pm-10pm split shifts, or 7am-3.30pm days
