The Healthcare Assistant is a founding clinical support hire for Metabolic's new London clinic, opening in October 2026.

This role owns the day to day patient experience on site, from welcoming patients and preparing them for consultations to supporting clinicians with observations, sample handling, and room readiness.

The Healthcare Assistant turns a fast moving launch environment into a calm, well organised patient journey, catching gaps before they become delays.

Because this is one of the first clinical support roles in the London site, the person in it helps set the working rhythm, checklists, and patient flow that later hires will follow.

The role sits between the clinical team and the wider operations and reception functions, keeping communication moving so patients are seen on time and clinicians have what they need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Launch & Site Setup
  • Join immediately to support final preparation ahead of the October 2026 clinic opening.
  • Support the fit out and stock of clinical rooms ahead of the London clinic opening.
  • Help establish the initial patient flow and appointment turnaround process alongside the clinical lead.
  • Flag equipment, supply, or workflow gaps early so they are resolved before go live.
  • Patient Care & Preparation
  • Welcome patients, confirm appointment details, and prepare them for consultations.
  • Take routine observations such as blood pressure, weight, and glucose readings under clinical guidance.
  • Support sample collection and correct labelling in line with clinic protocol.
  • Reassure and inform patients about what to expect during their visit.
  • Personal & Comfort Care
  • Support patients with mobility, seating, or personal comfort needs during their visit.
  • Treat every patient with dignity, privacy, and respect for their individual preferences.
  • Respond calmly to patients who are anxious or unwell, escalating to a clinician where needed.
  • Clinical Room & Equipment Standards
  • Keep consultation and treatment rooms stocked, clean, and ready between patients.
  • Check and maintain clinical equipment, escalating faults or servicing needs promptly.
  • Follow infection control and hygiene procedures at all times.
  • Cross Team Coordination
  • Work closely with reception to keep the daily schedule running on time.
  • Communicate patient needs and delays clearly to clinicians and the clinic manager.
  • Support administrative tasks such as updating patient records accurately and on time.
  • Compliance & Patient Safety
  • Follow CQC standards and clinic safeguarding, consent, and confidentiality procedures.
  • Handle patient data in line with UK GDPR and clinic information governance policy.
  • Report incidents or near misses through the clinic's established reporting process.
  • A smooth, on time patient flow through the clinic day.
  • Accurately recorded patient observations and samples, correctly labelled and logged.
  • Clinical rooms consistently stocked and ready ahead of each appointment.
  • Early input into the London site's patient flow and room turnaround checklists.
  • Timely escalation of equipment, supply, or safety issues.
  • Up to date, accurate patient records in the clinic system.

Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK, available to start immediately.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare, clinical, or patient facing support role.
  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
  • Strong communication skills and a calm, professional manner with patients.
  • Comfortable working flexible shifts to support clinic opening hours.
  • Level 3 NVQ or Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy or venepuncture certification. Training can be arranged for the right candidate.
  • Experience in diabetes, metabolic health, or a private healthcare setting.
  • Familiarity with electronic patient record systems.

The Healthcare Assistant owns patient preparation, observations support, room readiness, and day to day coordination with reception and clinicians.

This role does not make clinical or diagnostic decisions, which remain with the treating clinician, and does not set clinic policy or compliance standards.

Any change to clinical protocol or patient safety procedure must be reviewed and approved by the clinical lead before it is used.

The Healthcare Assistant's early experience on the ground is expected to inform how future clinical support roles are structured as the London site grows, without this role owning that hiring or structure decision.

Where patient data or confidentiality questions arise, the final call sits with the clinic's designated compliance and privacy lead, not with this role.
