The General Practitioner (GP) β Diabetes Educator will play a key role in the comprehensive care of patients with diabetes and related metabolic conditions. The role combines clinical expertise as a licensed GP with specialized responsibilities in diabetes education, patient counselling, and lifestyle modification support. Working closely with endocrinologists, dietitians, lifestyle coaches, and other healthcare professionals, the GP will ensure patients receive holistic and evidence-based care to improve outcomes and long-term quality of life. - Provide clinical consultations and ongoing management for patients with diabetes and related metabolic conditions, under the supervision of the Medical Director and in collaboration with the endocrinology team.
- Assess patients' medical history, lifestyle, and current treatment plans to deliver personalized, evidence-based recommendations.
- Support the initiation and titration of diabetes medications and insulin therapy in accordance with clinical protocols and under specialist guidance.
- Monitor and document patient progress accurately and in a timely manner within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system ensuring accurate clinical documentation in line with GDPR, UK data protection regulations, and record-keeping standards.
Diabetes Education & Patient Support:
- Deliver structured diabetes education sessions covering self-management, blood glucose monitoring, medication adherence, nutrition, physical activity, and complication prevention β drawing on established frameworks such as DESMOND and DAFNE.
- Educate patients on the use of medical devices including Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs), insulin pumps, and glucometers, as well as digital health tools used at metabolic.
- Tailor education approaches to individual patient needs, health literacy levels, and cultural backgrounds.
- Liaise with referring GPs and external healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
Quality, Research & Development:
- Participate in awareness programmes, workshops, and community initiatives promoting diabetes education and prevention.
- Contribute to quality assurance processes, clinical audits, and research activities within the diabetes centre.
- Support the development and review of clinical guidelines and patient education materials.
- Stay current with the latest NICE guidelines, ADA/EASD standards, and best practices in diabetes management and patient education.
Clinical Governance & Compliance:
- Work within the requirements of the Care Quality Commission (CQC), GMC Good Medical Practice, NICE guidance, and internal clinical governance frameworks.
- Participate in incident reporting, significant event reviews, safeguarding processes, infection prevention and control programmes, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support safe prescribing practices, medicines optimisation, and clinical risk management processes.
- Participate in audits, peer review, and ongoing service development to support continuous quality improvement.
Qualifications:
- Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) with full GMC registration and a licence to practise on the GP Register.
- Full registration with the GMC (UK) or equivalent medical regulatory body, with a licence to practise and satisfactory revalidation status.
- Postgraduate qualification in Diabetes, Endocrinology, or a related field (e.g., Minimum 2β3 years post-qualification clinical experience, ideally with patients with diabetes or chronic disease management).
- Demonstrable knowledge of diabetes medications, monitoring devices, lifestyle interventions, and patient-centred care models.
- Proficiency in EHR systems and digital health tools.
- Excellent communication, counselling, and patient education skills with the ability to motivate and engage diverse patient populations.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, technology-enabled healthcare environment.
- Certification or demonstrable training in Diabetes Education (e.g., CDCES, Diabetes UK accredited educator, DAFNE/DESMOND facilitator, or equivalent).
- Experience with structured diabetes education programmes (e.g., Experience with CGMs, insulin pumps, and digital health technology).
- Experience with quality improvement, clinical audit, or research in a diabetes or chronic disease setting.
- Arabic language skills (advantageous but not essential).
- Prior experience in a private clinic or international healthcare setting.
