Role Summary
We are looking for a full-time Cardiac Physiologist (Cardiology Technician) to deliver diagnostic cardiac investigations across our patient population.
You will perform ECGs, ambulatory monitoring and exercise tolerance testing, and support echocardiography services.
You will work closely with our Consultant Cardiologist and the wider metabolic team.
- Core Responsibilities
- Perform resting and exercise ECGs to a high technical standard.
- Fit and analyse ambulatory ECG and blood pressure monitors.
- Support non-invasive cardiac diagnostic services, including echocardiography where appropriately trained
- Ensure all recordings are accurate, complete and ready for timely clinical review.
- Prepare patients for cardiac investigations and explain procedures in clear, reassuring terms.
- Ensure patient comfort, dignity and privacy throughout every test.
- Recognise and elevate any acute or abnormal findings promptly to the responsible clinician.
- Confirm patient identity and obtain verbal consent before undertaking diagnostic investigations.
- 3. Equipment and Quality Control
- Maintain and calibrate diagnostic equipment in line with manufacturer and departmental guidance.
- Keep accurate logs of equipment checks, servicing and faults.
- Follow departmental protocols for infection prevention and control on all equipment and surfaces.
- 4. Compliance and Governance
- Follow Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards and the clinic's clinical governance framework.
- Comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and local infection control policy.
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous patient records in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
- Report incidents, near misses and equipment faults through the clinic's incident reporting process.
- 5. Collaboration and Development
- Work closely with the Consultant Cardiologist, specialist nurses and the wider metabolic team to support patient pathways.
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement within the cardiology service.
- Maintain and develop clinical skills through ongoing training and professional development.
- Key Requirements and Skills
Education
- BSc (Hons) in Healthcare Science (Cardiac Physiology) or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Registration
- Registration with the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) Accredited Register is essential.
Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), if introduced for the profession during employment, will be maintained where applicable
Experience
- Demonstrable experience performing ECG, ambulatory monitoring and exercise tolerance testing.
- Experience in echocardiography or device clinics is desirable.
- Right to work in the United Kingdom.
- Satisfactory Enhanced DBS check.
Certifications
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate is required.
- Immediate Life Support (ILS) is desirable.

- Confident, reassuring manner with patients undergoing diagnostic testing.
- Ability to recognise abnormal findings and elevate appropriately.

This role operates within the regulatory framework of the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) Clinical Physiologist register.
The post-holder will work in accordance with Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards and the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.
All relevant UK employment legislation applies, including the Equality Act 2010 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
