As a Data Engineer at Meta, you will shape the future of people‑facing and business‑facing products across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Reality Labs, and Threads. Your technical and analytical skills will be used to design and build some of the world’s largest data sets, helping craft experiences for billions of users and millions of businesses worldwide. You will collaborate with software engineering, data science, and product management teams to design and build scalable data solutions that optimize growth, strategy, and user experience for Meta’s 3 billion+ users and internal community. You will lead the identification and resolution of large‑scale data challenges, driving innovation and skill development in a world‑class data engineering community.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and own the data architecture for multiple large‑scale projects, evaluating design and operational cost‑benefit tradeoffs.
  • Create and contribute to frameworks that improve logging data efficacy, working with data infrastructure to triage issues and resolve them.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and data scientists to understand data needs and represent key insights meaningfully.
  • Define and manage Service Level Agreements for all owned data sets.
  • Determine and implement security models based on privacy requirements, confirm safeguards, address data quality issues and evolve governance processes.
  • Design, build, and launch sophisticated data models and visualizations that support multiple use cases and products.
  • Solve challenging data integration problems using optimal ETL patterns, frameworks, and query techniques from structured and unstructured sources.
  • Own existing production processes, optimizing complex code through advanced algorithmic concepts.
  • Optimize pipelines, dashboards, frameworks, and systems to facilitate easier development of data artifacts.
  • Influence product and cross‑functional teams to identify data opportunities that drive impact.
  • Mentor team members by giving and receiving actionable feedback.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent).
  • 4+ years of experience in roles involving working with data (data analyst, data scientist, data engineer, etc.).
  • 2+ years with a Ph.D. (or equivalent) with SQL, ETL, data modeling, and at least one programming language (Python, C++, C#, Scala, etc.).
  • Proven experience with data security, governance, and quality.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to convey data‑driven stories.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in a STEM field.
  • Experience designing and building optimal data artifacts (datasets, visualizations) at very large scale.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence product decisions through data insights.
  • Background in leading or mentoring engineering teams.
