Our client, a growing and well-established general haulage operator based in Wolverhampton, is looking to recruit an additional Transport Planner to join their expanding planning team. This role will suit someone with previous general haulage planning experience who is keen to develop their skills within a larger, fast-paced operation. Reporting directly to the Transport Manager, the Transport Planner will be responsible for the day-to-day planning and routing of the general haulage fleet, acting as a key link between drivers and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and route general haulage work efficiently to maximise fleet utilisation and profitability
- Ensure customers receive consistently high levels of service
- Communicate effectively with drivers, customers and sub-contractors
- Forward plan trailer, equipment and driver availability
- Process transport jobs accurately within internal systems
- Provide ad-hoc quotations to customers
- Assist drivers with job information and troubleshoot operational issues
- Notify relevant parties of abnormal loads where applicable
Requirements
- Previous experience planning a general haulage fleet
- Full UK driving licence
- Strong customer service skills
- Excellent written, verbal and numerical communication skills
- High attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment
- Adaptable, resilient and solutions focused
- Strong IT skills including Outlook, Word and Excel
- Knowledge of abnormal loads is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided
- Good understanding of different vehicle, trailer and load types
