Are you a hands-on Test Engineer with experience of physical product, mechanical, manufacturing or development testing? We are recruiting for a Product Test Engineer to join a well-established manufacturing business in Kingswinford. This is a practical, hands-on engineering position working with physical products, prototypes, test equipment and fixtures – this is not an IT, software or systems testing role.
Working closely with Design, Technical and Quality teams, you will plan and carry out product testing, analyse results and provide clear evidence and feedback to support product development, quality, compliance and continuous improvement.
What you'll be doing:
- Planning and carrying out physical product and mechanical testing
- Preparing samples, prototypes, returned and modified products for testing
- Setting up, operating and maintaining test equipment, fixtures and tools
- Interpreting ISO, BS EN and other technical requirements and turning these into practical test plans
- Carrying out development, validation, verification, comparison and compliance-support testing
- Recording test set-ups, results, observations, failures, deviations and conclusions
- Producing clear test reports, graphs, photographs, videos and supporting documentation
- Investigating product quality concerns, customer returns and proposed product changes
- Feeding test findings back to Design, Technical and Quality colleagues
- Supporting prototype assembly, first-off checks and proof-of-concept work
- Reading technical drawings to support testing, assembly and product reviews
- Supporting product and technical documentation where required
What we're looking for:
We're particularly interested in candidates with experience gained within manufacturing, mechanical engineering, product development, R&D, furniture, automotive, consumer products or another physical product testing environment. You'll ideally have:
- HNC-level engineering qualification or equivalent relevant experience
- Hands-on physical product, mechanical, development or compliance testing experience
- Experience working to ISO, BS EN or comparable technical standards
- The ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- A practical and analytical approach to problem-solving
- Strong attention to detail and accurate technical record keeping
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence using Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience of CAD, product documentation, engineering change requests (ECRs), product launches or compliance evidence would be advantageous.
Important: This position is focused on hands-on testing of physical manufactured products and prototypes. It is not a software testing, IT testing, QA automation or application testing position, so candidates whose experience is solely within software/IT testing are unlikely to be suitable. If you're a practical engineer who enjoys understanding how products work, investigating failures and turning technical requirements into real-world testing, we'd be keen to hear from you.
