Overview
Join the Met Office for an Industrial Placement 2026 in Exploiting K‑Scale Data for Machine Learning Development. The placement is full‑time (37 hours per week) and starts 1 July 2026. You will work on high‑resolution model outputs, prepare datasets for machine‑learning, and collaborate with research teams to assess model performance.
Responsibilities
- Manipulate large datasets and prepare them for machine‑learning applications.
- Support delivery of unique datasets and design experiments to assess sensitivity of machine‑learning models to input training datasets.
- Identify and apply appropriate techniques to evaluate the performance of experiment choices.
- Write scientific code and collaborate with others to analyse output data sets.
- Share and present key findings from your work to the wider team and/or stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Some experience of programming and data analysis; keen to develop skills in Python, GitHub and machine‑learning techniques.
- Effective teamwork and clear communication; proactive seeking of advice when needed.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines individually or as part of a team.
- Self‑motivation and enthusiasm to use cutting‑edge science for positive societal impact.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: ÂŁ27,170.
- Annual leave: 27.5 days (pro‑rata).
