Your world of expertise

The purpose of the Knowledge Integration team is to maximise the impact of Met Office climate science. We work closely with stakeholders to help inform their decision-making and respond to their evidence requirements. Much of our work is delivered through the Met Office Hadley Centre Climate Programme (MOHCCP); a world-leading research programme providing climate science expertise to inform UK national and international climate policy.

In this role, you will help us deliver outputs from the MOHCCP to our government stakeholders, aiming to support a well-adapted and more climate resilient UK. This will involve working with government colleagues to understand their specific needs for climate science evidence, working with Met Office scientists to understand the latest research developments, and then co-producing outputs and activities. We work on both long and very short-term timescales, responding to priority requirements as they arise.

You will gain a broad view of the climate science carried out across the Met Office Hadley Centre and be at the forefront of delivering timely and tailored science information to stakeholders while building strong science communication skills, developing strategic thinking and growing personal networks in the Met Office and with our partners. This is a great opportunity for a driven individual with a passion for science communication. You will get to work with decision-makers across UK government and with world-leading science experts in the Met Office and the wider scientific community. We are actively seeking individuals with strengths and an interest in topics relevant to the social sciences, such as science communication, understanding decision-making and stakeholder engagement.

  • Expert by nature – experience of leading engagement with government decision-makers and using innovative ideas to increase the impact of scientific evidence in a policy environment;
  • Expert by nature – proven ability to effectively lead on communicating scientific information in an appropriate way for a range of different audiences and purposes;
  • Better together – proven ability to build and manage effective relationships with stakeholders as well as evidence of resolving differing views on sensitive issues;
  • Live and breathe it – evidence of independently managing a varied workload of your own while steering the work of others and a proven ability to balance long-term project planning and delivery alongside ad-hoc and urgent requests;
  • Force for good - a demonstrable interest or understanding of climate science and/or related policy issues.
