We are looking for two International Development Delivery Managers to help make a difference to our planet. These roles support the delivery and growth of our international development portfolio and are based at Exeter HQ. They may involve hybrid working and require attendance at monthly International Team meetings. Employees are expected to travel internationally, including to developing countries.
Responsibilities
- Deliver technical international development activities within high‑value, multi‑year projects and programmes, including capacity development, technical assistance, training, facilitation and partner engagement.
- Support the development of bids, proposals and new opportunities, working with Regional Leads, technical experts and partners to shape activities, budgets, resources and delivery approaches aligned with the Met Office International strategy.
- Build and manage relationships with key international stakeholders, including national meteorological services, regional weather and climate centres, WMO, funders, regional bodies and strategic partners, applying strong cultural awareness and understanding of development contexts.
- Design and deliver practical interventions that meet funder, stakeholder and user needs, using good international development practice and adapting approaches to local social, political, institutional and cultural contexts.
- Work flexibly across the international portfolio, delivering technical and programme activities remotely and in‑country, and adapting to emerging priorities across Africa, MENA, Asia Pacific and other regions.
- Translate complex scientific, technical, programme and development information into clear, accessible messages, products and approaches for different audiences.
- Represent the Met Office and, where appropriate, wider UK Government interests internationally, operating in line with Met Office processes, Managing Public Money principles, security requirements and development best practice.
Essential Criteria, Skills and Experience
- Lead Criteria – Expert by nature: Demonstrated experience in international development, including work in developing country contexts and delivering technical assistance, capacity development or programme interventions that respond to partner, funder and user needs.
- Better together: Proven ability to build, manage and maintain effective internal and external relationships, creating trust, rapport and productive partnerships across organisations, sectors and cultures.
- Self‑motivated, customer‑oriented, able to work independently and collaboratively to deliver outcomes supporting social impact, resilience and international development objectives.
- Evidence of successfully delivering projects or programmes, managing resources, risks, benefits, finances and reporting.
- Business development capability in the international development sector, able to identify opportunities and articulate added value.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with influencing and negotiation skills and ability to translate complex technical information into clear, accessible content.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally, including to developing countries.
Optional and Preferred Experience
- Experience working with National Meteorological and Hydrological Services, Regional Weather and Climate Centres, WMO, FCDO, multilateral development banks, climate finance institutions, NGOs or other international development partners.
