We are looking for an Application Support Engineer – Business Platforms to join the Met Office's Business Platform Support team. As our Application Support Engineer, you will provide advanced level support and enablement across the Microsoft Power Platform and SaaS provisioned people services landscape, with a focus on Power BI, Dynamics, and low-code/no-code technologies. This role will ensure robust governance, scalable support, and cross-team collaboration to reduce operational risks and enhance service delivery.

Your key duties:

  • Delivering 1st and 2nd line technical support for Power Platform, Microsoft Dynamics, and SaaS People Service, including providing guidance on data sources, transformation logic, and integration with other platforms.
  • Support governance efforts across the Power Platform and Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Communicate and engage with our Power Platform Citizen Developers via Community of Practice and comms channels.
  • Ensure that any identified Power Platform developments that perform operational tasks are secure, fit for purpose and migrated to the correct workspace.
  • Collaborate closely with the Corporate Applications team to ensure alignment between development and support functions.
  • Contribute to building a cross-skilled team capable of supporting Dynamics, Power Platform, and other SaaS tools.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members and business users.

We operate an on-call roster in Technology to provide 24/7/365 support to respond to operational service requirements. This post may be part of an on-call roster and the postholder would be required to participate in an on-call roster where in operation.

Essential Criteria, skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering high-quality 1st and 2nd line operational support, underpinned by a strong working knowledge of ITIL service management processes, particularly in the areas of Incident, Change, and Service Request management.
  • Proven expertise in supporting and maintaining Microsoft Power Platform technologies—including Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate—within a live operational environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of effective stakeholder engagement across a range of business functions.
  • Committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning by facilitating knowledge sharing and delivering training to empower end-users and enhance digital capability.
  • Sound understanding of Power Platform governance frameworks and best practices, with the ability to support consistent adoption and drive process optimisation across teams.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 or comparable Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms, with a focus on supporting business operations and user adoption.
  • Proven ability to support and manage tooling provided by third-party Software as a Service (SaaS) vendors, ensuring service reliability, integration, and alignment with organisational requirements.
