The Business Development Manager plays a key role in driving revenue growth, establishing strong client relationships and supporting sales and marketing efforts for MES’ consultancy services in their designated territory. They will work collaboratively with our technical and operations teams to ensure effective promotion and sales of our specialised services, such as technical safety, human factors engineering, and advanced physics modelling to existing and new clients across the UK and Europe.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Market Development & Research: Identify and pursue new and repeat business opportunities in the energy, oil & gas, and chemicals industries. Analysis of market data, market segments, client key buying factors, and problem areas to support tailored solution offerings, outreach channels and pricing strategies. Develop insights into the regional business environment, including factors shaping clients’ decisions and behaviour in the UK and Europe.
  • Client Acquisition & Relationship Management: Maintain own knowledge in solution-based sales, particularly for our specialised consulting services, ensuring alignment with complex client needs. Build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers within target client organisations. Regular communication with clients to ensure satisfaction, encourage repeat business, and identify upselling or cross-selling opportunities.
  • Business Strategy & Coordination: Collaborate with the UK and Italy Operations Managers and Global BD Director to align marketing and sales efforts with the specific goals and objectives of each service area for the designated territory and client(s). Prepare sales forecasts. Engage with clients in long sales cycles, focusing on consultative selling. Monitor sales performance and adjust strategies to meet or exceed targets.
  • Designated/Key Clients: Act as account manager for the designated clients. Conduct in-depth research on key clients to understand their current challenges and past interactions with our business. Establish frequent communication channels with key clients and maintain a strong, ongoing relationship.
  • Marketing & Brand Presence: Identify and target potential clients and business opportunities in line with business objectives. Develop and execute strategies for lead generation and client acquisition and retention. Plan and execute annual marketing and sales campaigns in the designated territory.
  • Budget Management: Support annual budgeting for marketing and sales for the designated territory factoring in advertising, events, content creation, and promotional materials.
  • Reporting and Accountability: Keep UK and Italy Operations Managers and other stakeholders informed through regular reports. Be accountable for the success of the marketing and sales efforts and transparent about the results, lessons learned, and recommendations for future improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in either a technical or business related undergraduate subject.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in B2B Sales and Marketing of engineering or consultancy services, preferably in energy, oil and gas or the process industry.
  • Good understanding of the energy and chemicals industry, market dynamics, and client needs.
  • Results driven & strategic thinker.
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in marketing tools and strategies, including digital marketing.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Leadership, team management and good organisational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritise and work under pressure.
  • Strong ethical conduct.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of business information.
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft office (Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
