MES Limited Electrical and Plumbing New Build Housing Contractor are seeking an experienced Estimator to join the team. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute Estimator to work within a close-knit and supportive environment working collaboratively with the team to progress the business opportunities. You will be responsible for preparing competitive tenders and helping drive the continued success of a business built on strong relationships, quality workmanship, and repeat client partnerships. This role will be based in our offices in Cumbernauld, Glasgow.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate, competitive and well-structured tender submissions.
- Review tender enquiry documents, drawings and specifications in detail.
- Undertake detailed take-offs and cost analysis.
- Identify scope inclusions, exclusions and commercial risks prior to submission.
- Ensure all pricing is accurate, complete and submitted within deadline.
- Support commercial negotiations through to contract award.
- Work closely with the management team to develop winning tender strategies.
- Maintain pricing databases and records to support future bids.
- Attend post-tender meetings and site visits where required.
- Carry out project handovers to operational teams following successful contract awards ensuring all project information and drawings are documented.
Experience and Background
- Previous estimating experience within new build housing.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of material costs.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple tenders simultaneously to deadlines.
Customer & Commercial Support Requirement
- Liaise directly with customers to clarify technical and commercial requirements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers.
- Support pricing negotiations and commercial discussions.
- Assist in securing new business opportunities and repeat work.
About You
You’ll already have experience of estimating for New Build Housing projects and a background in a similar role. Excellent IT skills are just as important. You’ll bring strong attention to detail, accurate reporting skills, a professional approach, and a genuine ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
What you’ll need
- BTEC / HNC / HND / Degree in Quantity Surveying / Construction Management
- Relevant experience and demonstrated ability will be valued above formal qualifications.
