Merton College are now seeking a dedicated and experienced Lecturer to deliver high-quality teaching in GCSE English to develop engaging lesson plans and materials and support students in achieving their academic goals.

The focus of this role is to teach GCSE English and/or Functional Skills predominantly to students aged 16-19 years of age (teaching adults and/or evening courses may be required). You will follow our agreed schemes of work and assessment schedules and provide additional English support as required, participate in developing the English provision and undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required by the Head of School/Deputy Head of School.

As our Lecturer, we'd like you to hold a degree or relevant professional qualification in an appropriate subject, hold a teaching qualification (or willing to work towards) and have excellent teaching skills in GCSE English. With awareness of academic quality standards, you'll have participated in recent and relevant continuous professional development and be able to use new technologies to enhance teaching and learning. With energy, enthusiasm and passion for the subject and education, you'll be receptive to new ideas and initiatives with a creative approach to problem solving.

Able to support, motivate and empathise with learners, including monitoring their progress, you'll have good planning, preparation, organisational and administrative skills, with good attention to detail. You'll have strong digital literacy, including proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint with an awareness of educational technologies, digital innovations and collaborative tools (e.g. Microsoft Teams) to enhance teaching and learning is expected.

You will predominantly be based at Merton College, however you may be required to travel to and work from Carshalton College on occasion.

The successful candidate will be eligible for any increase in salary as a consequence of the annual cost of living review that will be implemented in the new academic year.

The benefits package includes generous annual leave of 40 days plus up to 8 additional days over Christmas/New Year as well as an additional 5 days Wellbeing leave to enhance employees' physical and mental health. There is an excellent pension scheme that receives a significant financial contribution from the employer (Teachers Pensions or Local Government Pension Scheme), subsidised sports facilities and professional development and training plus a salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme. The benefits package is to be pro-rated for part time staff.
