Main Purpose of the Role

To lead, manage and develop the quality of teaching and learning across the school, ensuring that pupils experience consistently high-quality provision that enables them to make strong progress and to become ambitious, capable learners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support developments in teaching and learning across the school to ensure high standards of classroom practice.
  • Model effective teaching strategies that reflect the principles of the Curriculum for Wales and promote independent, purposeful learning.
  • Work with colleagues to develop pedagogy that inspires pupils and builds on their individual strengths and needs.
  • Support staff through coaching, mentoring and professional dialogue to enhance classroom practice.
  • Contribute to the school\'s professional learning programme, sharing best practice and promoting a reflective learning culture.
  • Use a range of evidence, including observation, pupil work and learner voice, to evaluate and improve teaching quality.
  • Promote consistently high expectations and ensure that all learners are challenged appropriately.
  • Support the development of assessment for learning strategies that help pupils to understand how to improve their work.

Whole‑School Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead initiatives that raise standards in teaching, learning and pupil progress.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning of curriculum delivery, ensuring that learning builds progressively across the school.
  • Work collaboratively with AoLE Leads to secure consistency and coherence in teaching approaches within and across Areas of Learning and Experience.

  • Contribute to the ongoing development of a culture of innovation, professional reflection and continuous improvement.
