To lead on the effective delivery of Welsh language immersion to support provision in Merthyr Tydfil Borough Council. This will be a part peripatetic model, and the provision will move to a static site from September 2027. The successful candidate will support learners who are latecomers to the Welsh language and Welsh medium education, as well as those currently in Welsh medium education and requiring additional targeted support with their language acquisition. This role is integral to delivering the outcomes included within Merthyr Tydfil Borough Council Welsh in Education Strategic Plan (WESP) and will support the commitments outlined in Cymraeg 2050: A million Welsh speakers.
Main Tasks performed:
- To deliver a portfolio of teaching/tutoring/support for individual, small group, whole class of learners who are latecomers to the Welsh language and Welsh Medium education or those requiring additional support with their Welsh Language acquisition.
- To develop appropriate curriculum planning, aligned to the needs of the Immersion provision, to ensure the development of disciplinary knowledge, cross curricular and integral skills, and reflecting the Four Purposes of Curriculum for Wales.
- To provide training and support to the heads and teachers of the partnership schools in order that specialist one-to-one support can be provided within the home school, and a supportive learning programme delivered.
- To work in partnership with the heads and teachers of partnership schools in order to monitor the progress and wellbeing of the learners.
- To continue to develop resources and training packages to support the delivery of the provision.
- To create a supportive learning environment to support learners to feel increasingly confident with speaking Welsh in any context, through nurturing and developing learners' listening and speaking skills.
- To ensure learning resources and methods of delivery are effective and suitable to each learner's individual needs in both the Immersion and home school setting.
- To plan, monitor and evaluate learner progress through planned recording of achievement against an appropriate baseline, pre-determined learning objectives and qualitative information such as learner voice.
- To keep records of work undertaken and assess and monitor the progress of learners accessing support and receive feedback from the partnership schools and parents/carers/guardians as appropriate.
- To use specialist skills/training/experience to fully immerse learners in the Welsh language to support their language acquisition.
- To provide information, support and guidance to parents and carers of learners accessing the service on choosing Welsh medium education, this includes promoting and marketing the provision.
- To develop and contribute to in-service training for schools to help integrate learners into a Welsh medium educational setting.
- To liaise with parents/carers/guardians and the appropriate schools to support a seamless transition into the learners new Welsh medium educational setting and/or to confidently return to their existing school.
- To work with the LA lead officer in developing an annual BIP, in line with LA Performance Frameworks.
- To engage in self-evaluation activities alongside the LA lead officer in line with the LA school improvement approaches.
- To keep up-to-date with current educational standards to develop effective support strategies and learning materials appropriate to the needs of the learners including development of CEFT approaches for progression.
- To work cross-departmentally to ensure that the priorities and policies of the Department of Education and Inclusion Services are embedded within the work delivery programme.
- To supervise staff identified in the allocated service area. This includes ensuring best practice, allocating work and providing feedback on performance and identifying learning needs as well as other day-to-day line management issues.
- To undertake such other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the grade, as may be reasonably required by the Service Director, or as a mutually agreed development opportunity.
- To comply with the Council's Health and Safety Policies and procedures and undertake any relevant health and safety duties in accordance with local arrangements.
- To comply with the Council's decarbonisation requirements to achieve net zero carbon emissions.
- All staff have a valuable and vital role in keeping people safe. Any person with concerns regarding the safety of a child or adult at risk, OR the behaviour of a colleague towards a child or adult at risk, has a responsibility to report this immediately. This should be done via the person's Line Manager, Designated Safeguarding Lead or contact the Cwm Taf Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub.
