Job overview: Are you looking for a new challenge? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated Ward Manager, to join our highly skilled, innovative busy 28 bedded Intermediate Care ward. Duffy Suite comprises of a nursing team who are supported by a MDT, including medics, therapy, pharmacy and social care teams. An Enhanced DBS Certificate is required for this post.

Main duties of the job:

  • To be responsible for the effective and efficient management of Duffy Suite.
  • Responsible for providing leadership and management to nursing and support team and associated staff to ensure effective running of ward/department.
  • Working collaboratively with members of a multidisciplinary team to establish and maintain high standards of care.
  • Maintain Professional Registration for self & team.
  • Adhere to relevant Code of Practice of Professional body.
  • To ensure optimum use of staff so that standards of care and safety are not compromised.
  • Act as a role model to the team.
  • Ensure governance processes at ward level assure the quality of care delivered to patients.
  • Monitor Sickness and Absence at Ward level and work closely with Matron/Directorate Manager to ensure employees comply with policies and procedures.
  • Efficiently manage the resources allocated to the ward and identify options for cost improvements.
  • Investigate all incidents/complaints thoroughly and liaise promptly with the Matron.
  • Report monthly to Directorate manager regarding finance, quality and performance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

  • To be responsible for the setting, maintaining, and monitoring of standards of care within the ward.
  • Provide leadership, management and team development to designated staff group.
  • Provide specialist advice, leadership and support to the wider MDT ensuring the patient is at the centre of all decision making.
  • Ensure high quality care throughout the service by ensuring assessment planning, implementation and evaluation of care delivery.
  • Maintain staff and patient records in compliance with Trust policy.
  • Liaise with internal departments and external agencies to provide evidence-based care.
  • Create a climate conducive to the practice of a high standard of care.
  • Participate in research/special projects in conjunction with the Matron.
  • Ensure that all staff know, adhere to, and have access to all Policies and procedures for Duffy suite.
  • Deputise for the Matron as directed.
  • Be responsible for maintaining established links with appropriate MDT.
  • Ensure the annual appraisal of all ward staff.
  • Implement strategies which enable quality targets to be met.
  • Responsible for the induction and training of newly appointed staff.
  • Work with members of a multidisciplinary team to establish and maintain high standards for data quality.

Teaching & Training Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all responsible staff attend / complete annual training updates and mandatory training.

Line Management/Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Ensure care is delivered to a high-quality standard.
  • Oversee and ensure regular departmental meetings.
  • Maintain communication and accurate record keeping within the department.

Financial Responsibility:

  • Efficiently manage the resources allocated to the ward and identify options for cost improvements.

Person specification:

  • Registered Nurse or Registered health professional Diploma / Degree level qualification.
  • Current NMC Registration.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Leadership training or qualification (minimum Level 4 ILM or equivalent).
  • Experience of managing teams.
  • Understanding of budget management within the NHS at departmental level.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to network and build relationships at all levels.
