Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, proactive Ward Clerk within the Surgical Division who will primarily be based on G ward, a post‑operative care ward. Additionally, the post involves working on adjacent ward H when leave cover is required.

The role requires an enthusiastic individual who enjoys working in a team, possesses good interpersonal skills and is efficient with excellent communication and IT skills.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will be required to provide comprehensive and confidential administrative and clerical activities, including answering the telephone, meeting and greeting staff, filing, and general clerical duties required on the ward to meet the needs of the service in accordance with departmental, trust and national standards, policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Good general education to O level / GCSE
  • Computer course e.g. ECDL

Knowledge & Experience

  • Previous NHS experience
  • Experience in an administrative post
  • Ability to process and store information

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as an individual and as part of a team
  • Ability to plan, monitor & organise own workload
  • Ability to deal with the public & relatives in a calm & effective manner

Other

  • Role involves sitting, standing, and walking
  • Role involves delivering to other departments such as referrals, case notes
  • Involves ability to take telephone calls with enquiries and relay accurate information/messages
