We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic Therapy Service as Team Lead. This role involves both clinical and operational responsibilities. The successful candidate will provide a high quality, evidence based therapy service to patients admitted to hospital on a trauma and/or orthopaedic pathway. This will include, but is not exclusive to, trauma, major trauma, elective surgery, fractured neck of femur and amputee patients.

The Team Leader will provide highly specialist Physiotherapy/ Occupational Therapist intervention for a caseload of Orthopaedic patients and offer advanced clinical reasoning within the specialism to support complex decision making. The Team Leader will be responsible for developing, managing, planning and delivering the Trauma and Orthopaedic therapy service with support from the Clinical Lead and Clinical Therapy Manager.

Main duties of the job:

  • Lead the Trauma and Orthopaedic therapy team to provide clinical expertise and deliver a high quality effective service in line with best practice.
  • Operationally manage the Trauma and Orthopaedic therapy service and clinically lead the team.
  • Receive referrals, undertake full assessment and independently plan individual, specialised, evidence-based treatment programmes for patients using advanced clinical reasoning and a variety of highly specialist skills to rehabilitate and safely discharge their patients.
  • Manage a team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Assistant Practitioners and Therapy Assistants, ensuring regular supervision, PDR and compliance with Mandatory training.
  • Lead service developments including policies, education and training of other health professionals on matters of rehabilitation.
  • Work as a member of the wider multidisciplinary team to develop and enhance the Therapy services for this rehabilitation.

Person specification:

  • Qualifications: Degree in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy, HCPC Registration, Leadership qualification or equivalent experience, Clinical Educator Qualification, Evidence of Continued Professional Development within specialism.
  • Knowledge and Experience: Extensive post-graduate Orthopaedic experience and knowledge, Experience in leadership and supervising staff, Experience of service development, Experience of leading audit.
  • Skills and Abilities: Ability to initiate evidence based practice within clinical area and demonstrates experience in developing local care pathway, Excellent teaching and presentation skills, Excellent communication skills, ability to work closely with the MDT.
