Job overview

We are currently expanding our team in ED Reception.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, well-motivated individual to join our busy Emergency Department.

The successful candidate will need to possess excellent communication skills and must be able to work under pressure.

Working with minimal supervision the candidate must be able to use their own initiative.

Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust provides healthcare in hospital and the community to 258,000 people across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire.

Acute care is provided at Southport and Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk District General Hospital. This includes adults’ and
children’s accident and emergency services, intensive care and a range of medical and surgical specialities. Women’s and children’s services,
including maternity, are provided at Ormskirk hospital.

The North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport hospital provides specialist care for spinal patients from across the North West,
North Wales and the Isle of Man.

The Trust also provides sexual health services for the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton.

The JD & PS are currently under AfC review and are subject to change.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will need to be flexible to cover
their colleagues’ shifts for annual leave and sickness.

Keyboard skills are essential and previous experience of the Patient Administration System would be an advantage although training will be given.

The successful candidate will be expected to work 30 hours per week over a 24 hour period which will include days, nights, weekends and Bank
Holidays.

This post will be subject to a Standard DBS Check.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Qualifications

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent experience
  • European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
  • NVQ 2 in Customer service

Experience

  • Good knowledge of Administrative Systems
  • Experience of dealing with customers
  • Experience of dealing with complaints
  • Previous NHS experience
  • Knowledge of Medway or other Patient Administrative System

Skills

  • Ability to move case notes as required
  • Ability to use own initiative when dealing with patient’s enquiries
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to prioritise own workload
  • Ability to recognise and solve problems and identify when further advice is required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to use tact and diplomacy

  • Frequent requirement to move patient case notes throughout the day
  • Ability to concentrate when taking patient details at the reception desk or over the phone throughout the day
  • Occasional requirement to deal with distressed patients
  • Use of VDU continuously throughout the course of the shift
