12‑month Fixed Term Position
This is a full‑time, 10‑session per week, 12‑month fixed‑term Locum Consultant role in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Whiston Hospital, NHS. Resident On Call will be part of this post.
Main duties of the job:
- Provide general clinical care to the Trust in addition to specialist interests.
- Continued care, treatment and personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in the job plan, including delegation and staff training.
- Cover for consultant colleagues during leave, including patient care and supervision of trainees.
- Participate in clinical audit, adverse event review, guideline development, external review and service development.
- Supervise, train and manage junior medical staff; carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required; contribute to postgraduate and CPD activity locally and nationally.
- Annual appraisal participation and compliance with continuing professional development requirements.
- Maintain awareness and practice in line with professional guidelines, including Good Medical Practice and GMC Performance Procedures.
- Willingness to undertake additional duties for limited periods as required.

Person Specification:
Qualifications:
- Full GMC registration at the time of application
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCP or equivalent medical qualification
- MD/PHD or equivalent medical qualification
- Further higher degree
Knowledge:
- Evidence of achievement of competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice, including good clinical care, good relationships and communication with colleagues, professional behaviour and probity, and delivery of good acute clinical care.
Skills:
- Demonstrated written and spoken English skills sufficient for effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
- Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
- Competence in the General Obstetrics & Gynaecology curriculum RCOG ATSM or equivalent experience, including advanced labour ward practice, and independent Labour Ward management
- Experience in Consultant on‑call rota participation
- Robust audit/research experience within the last three years
- Teaching experience within the last three years
- Strong written/spoken communication, adaptability and logical problem solving
- Capacity to work effectively with others, in multi‑professional teams, and supervise junior staff
- Time management and prioritisation skills
- Basic IT skills
- Resilience and initiative under pressure
- Special interest accreditation (e.g., medical education, paediatric & adolescent gynaecology)
- Recent academic achievements and research publications within the last five years
